Tues through Thurs

Well, sorry again that it has been so long since we updated the blog, but we have been out of cell service and away from computer access since Monday!
Anyway, Tuesday we made it to a little town called Fort Benton that is apparently loaded with history. We chilled through the heat of the day by the Missouri river under a grove of cottonwood trees. Erik took a really long nap and got covered in cotton but I was able to meet several other bicyclists one in particular was 60 years old and was making his trek from Portland, OR to West Virginia! Yeah, I was pretty impressed as well especially since he caught up with us (he didn't take Sunday off though, so there’s our excuse!).
We took off from there when the heat had passed and rode till about 10:30 putting in about 93 miles that day and thoroughly enjoyed some doughnuts when we made camp smack in the middle of nowhere.
Tuesday we biked uneventfully to a town called Lewiston, and after we ate our typical ginormous dinner we settled down for the night in a great little park.
Wednesday we made it to a little town called Winnett in time for lunch and after downing mass quantities of organic substances, sleeping a lot and reading a little we continued on for a bit until we made it to this amazing rest area. Okay, this was indeed like no other rest stop that I’ve ever been to, super nice landscaping and the interior had a two story atrium and four personal bathrooms for each gender! It was so sweet that we decided to stay the night, but that turned out to be a bad idea because the area was thoroughly infested with mosquitoes! I synched my sleeping bag up until there was only a little hole through which I could get air, but as I peeped out through my little mosquito fortress I could see dozens swarming around about a hands breadth from my nose. And of course, just as I would begin to dose off a stray skeeter would muster enough courage to sample my (Nathan’s) tender nose only to be swatted away. My nose is still intact but it made for a sleepless night (yeah, we didn’t have any “off” and I know we should have put up the tent, but we were tired and lazy)!
Anyways, today we made it to a town called Jordan and the only thing eventful to report is our roughly 3,000 calorie a piece meal that left both Erik and I still hungry!
Haha, the interesting picture that we posted below was the remains of the ten chicken thighs that we devoured on top of the package of the half gallon ice cream container that we ate while the chicken was cooking! Unfortunately, the picture doesn’t capture the two peaches and yogurts that we also ate…hehe
Well, we’re still alive, consistently getting our 80+ miles a day in and never slacking in our epic pursuit for more food!
Keep you updated!

  1. Hey Nathan and Erik,
Thanks so much for the posts; I'm really enjoying them. It sounds like there's more adventure at every turn. I know cell service is spotty, but still give me a call when you get a chance (maybe tomorrow on the rest day). I'd like to get back in touch, and there are some things we should talk about regarding your stay here.
    Talk to you soon!
    Ross
